Volunteer Partners

At New Circle, we are so grateful for the dedication and hard work of our volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of New Circles. Without their dedication and passion, New Circles would not be able to operate many of their programs and services.

As a Glow Associate volunteers can assist us in any one or more of the following areas:

Client Customer Service

  • Enthusiastically greet clients and provide new or referred clients with an orientation to GLOW
  • Provide information or answer questions about programs and services offered
  • Recommend items / advise clients, as requested (i.e. assisting a client with shopping for winter clothes, who has never experienced a Toronto winter)
  • Remove empty hangers, ensure all items are on correct hangars, place items in correct direction on racks, and remove items that do not meet quality standards
  • Retrieve items and restock GLOW from the Donation Sorting Room (i.e. alternative sizes, styles etc.) as needed
  • Assist larger families to manage time, through offering assistance to find items

Client Check Out Service

  • Enter all merchandise in the SUMAC database and ensure clients are adhering to clothing allowance guidelines
  •  Greet incoming clients as they come in and answer any questions if no clients at check-out
  • May assist in creating attractive theme-based and seasonal displays consistent with a contemporary retail setting
  • Maintain check out area in a neat and orderly manner

Sorting And Quality Control Service

  • Receive, inspect and sort donated items such as clothes, shoes, and accessories according to the category and condition
  • Check clothing for: broken zippers, snaps or buttons, holes or damage (pilling, stains or soil marks, outdated items (but not retro/vintage)
  •  Place all suitable inventory in the appropriate bins
  • Place all unsuitable clothing in blue recycled garbage bags for Kidney Foundation pick-up and into the Kidney Foundation bin
  • Hang clothing using correct hangers and place on restocking racks by category or size
  •  Restock the store racks as needed and in the correct categories and sizes (Men’s, Women’s Babies/Children’s, Accessories and Shoes)

Clothing Donor Customer Service

  • Accept clothing and accessories donations from donors and thank them warmly
  • Ask donors what they are bringing, in order to redirect items we do not stock; refer those donations to Value Village at Golden Mile or Salvation Army
  • Assist donors with unloading of donations from their car if required (depending on social distancing requirements)
  • Offer donors a thank you card, an opportunity for a tour and offer to add their email address to our newsletter mailing list
  • Provide a tour of GLOW; introduce to staff as appropriate
  • Bring donations into the appropriate area Donation Sorting Room

Group Volunteering:

Group volunteering is a beneficial team-building exercise, as well as a great way to promote civic responsibility and community engagement.

Volunteering at New Circles is a great opportunity for groups from high schools, corporations, faith groups, and other community organizations to help in our GLOW store.

Due to the high volume of volunteering requests we receive, we ask that groups contact us to book your session a minimum of four weeks in advance.

Please note that we are unable to accommodate groups that are larger than ten, but we do suggest you consider splitting your group into smaller groups and we will be more than pleased to coordinate different time slots.
