Reaching Out to the Community at Family Fun Day

July 21, 2017

There were lots of smiling faces at Family Fun Day on July 13, when almost 250 New Circles clients and their family and friends joined us for an afternoon of games, prizes, refreshments, and more.

As part of a larger outreach strategy to support agency growth, we’re working to reach out to clients and the broader community, to share information about the breadth of programs New Circles offers – from the GLOW clothing bank, to employment skills training, and social programs.

“Family Fun Day was an ideal opportunity to welcome existing and new clients to our space to learn more about New Circles’ employment training, special shopping days and other programs, as well as other social service agencies that may benefit them,” said to Virginia Trotter, Client Services Coordinator. In addition to an info booth on New Circles’ programs, twenty-seven other community service agencies attended, with information on a variety of resources, from employment support, to community health, settlement services, and more. Other community representatives included 211 FindHelp, Toronto Police 54 Division, and MPP Michael Coteau's office.

The day was also about having fun! With children’s games run by Leaders in Service Training students, face painting, henna designs, raffle prizes and more, Family Fun Day offered something for everyone. “We always strive to create a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who walks through our doors,” said Virginia.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event happen. Special thanks to Sultan of Samosas for the donation of 100 samosas, Lee Chen from Sunny Foodmart for donating five bags of groceries for the raffle, Business Office Skills graduate Tabinda Ismaili for offering free henna designs for our guests, and New Circles volunteer Linda Antouan and Issa Tannous for catering the event.

New Circles' GLOW clothing service is the largest clothing bank in Toronto. We help 12,000 people of all ages annually.
