Volunteering at the Seniors Mobile Mall

By: Rahaf Al-Enzy, LIST Student

It was a few weeks of preparation involving clothing program manager Poppy Phioukham and half of the LIST students, as we put together the clothing, signs, and food for the Seniors Mobile on August 10.

It was fun picking out and sorting clothes on the racks with my friends, but it was even more fun being sales associates for the seniors. There was a Zumba class, a table with snacks, and 12 racks filled with clothing of different sizes; we even got to join the seniors in the Zumba and danced along to Gangnam Style. The drive to the residence was an hour long, but once we got there, it was a rush hour with so many seniors picking out as many clothes as they wanted. It was especially very busy at the checkout.

I very much enjoyed helping the seniors and they were very nice to us. The event ended the way we started with moving racks, bins, and hangers from the room to the truck. It was a very similar to volunteering at GLOW, except it was very busy. This experience is one of the ones that stood out to me the most, and I am very lucky that I was a part of it.

New Circles' GLOW clothing service is the largest clothing bank in Toronto. We help 12,000 people of all ages annually.
