Youth excited about graduating from new retail program
“LIST has not only helped me with retail, but has boosted my confidence in talking and interacting with other people” – Program Graduate
Congratulations to our Leaders in Service Training (LIST) graduates – all of whom successfully completed a 6 week retail skills and leadership program. Our ten students are now Certified Retail Sales Associates through the Retail Council of Canada.
Coordinated by full-time staffer, Poppy Phioukham, she saw an opportunity to utilize the successful Clothing Program as a platform to train young people in the community seeking to improve their pre-employment skills.
Students were engaged in the Retail Council of Canada curriculum, as well as life skills workshops. They learned a diverse range of knowledge, including developing financial literacy, learning how to build a resume, coaching for job interviews, retail sector skills, such as delivering quality customer service…and much, much more!
We wish to thank staff Abida Savani and Mellissa Motlhabane for their front-line leadership in delivering this program.
This program would not have been possible without the wonderful support of our volunteer facilitators, who took the time out of their schedules to teach our students! Thank you to Ryan Brown, Jacqueline Chan, Jaya Kahlon, Chrystal Chu, Andreas Koch, Susanne Lyle, Voula Luarakos, Markus Harwood Jones, Pamela Smith & Design Exchange, Lana Miller, Fiona Thiele, Natasha Morris and the team from Mackenzie Investments.
Our students also participated in a fun and informative field trip to learn more about the retail sector – thank you to Hudson’s Bay Company, Olly Shoes and Winners. Thank you to our volunteer photographer Elina Azari for capturing the event!
This program would not have been possible without the generous support of Mackenzie Investments Charitable Foundation and TELUS.
