"If it wasn’t for this program, I would not have gotten this job!"

On February 12th, ten women shared an important milestone with New Circles when we celebrated the first graduates of our new Business Office Skills program, delivered in partnership with Seneca College, Skills for Change and Golden Mile Employment Social Services – City of Toronto.

Launched last September, the Business Office Skills program was designed to meet the express need from our clients, particularly newcomer women, for training opportunities in the community to help them transition to the workforce.

One participant, Cindy O’Brien, has already been hired by her placement employer as an Administrative Assistant and enthusiastically commented:  “Thank you so much for this opportunity – if it wasn’t for this program, I would not have gotten this job!”

The program included twelve weeks of classroom instruction on Business Communication and Microsoft Office Suite delivered by Seneca College as well as weekly career development workshops that included job search, resume writing and interview skills. The classroom learning was followed by a 100 hour placement in an administrative role at an organization where students could apply their skills, gain relevant work experience and obtain professional references.

Students are now actively being supported in their job search through Skills For Change employment services.  Congratulations and best wishes to all our graduates!
